Centennial president discusses new learning initiatives
On Wednesday, April 15, Centennial president Ann Buller met with Courier staff for a Q&A session on her role in the administration of the college, and what the college is doing to enhance the learning experience.

The president and I discussed Centennial’s role in establishing international partnerships. Ann Buller says the college has established programs in China, Dubai and India in a variety of disciplines including animation, hotel management and business.
Buller wants the college to expand its international presence but only if such partnerships can benefit the campuses in Ontario.

Centennial’s joint-journalism program with the University of Toronto Scarborough is splintered from the rest of the program since it’s taught mostly at the HP campus. The rest of the journalism programs are held at the CCC.
Ann Buller was unable to say if the journalism programs will be united one day at one campus. This is one of several situations the college is considering to determine whether or not certain programs should be relocated to maximize the student’s learning experience.
She also mentioned how moving the aviation program to an actual airport could improve the quality of education students receive.
Buller said that it should take between six to eight months to determine if any programs should be relocated.

I wanted to discuss segregation issues between the men and the women at the Ashtonbee campus, but I was unsure how to bring up such a sensitive subject.
Ann was amazingly approachable about the issue and also very upfront. She acknowledged the challenges to make that campus as open and accepting as possible and shared stories of her own experiences with sexism.
She said that while there was still a long way to go to reach equality, the campus has made leaps and bounds in the right direction.
She stressed that students should be aware that any behaviour that undermines the equality rights of women will not be tolerated by the college.
I was glad to hear straight from the president that steps are continually being taken to make the school a comfortable environment for everybody.
