CCSAI launches new Web site
Increased student interaction and information flow are two goals related to the ongoing changes to the Centennial College’s Student Association (CCSAI) website.
With the first phase already launched, communications manager, Mathieu Yuill hopes the new website will better inform students about the issues that matter to them.
“It’s not just about what Centennial College Student Association cares about,” he said. “It’s about what you, as a student, care about.”
According to Yuill, the old website proved very successful. In the month of September, it would receive somewhere between 7,500 and 12,000 unique hits.
“The Student Association website is more of a stewardship for us. It’s not like a service we provide,” Yuill said. “We just have to do it because our job is to get information to the students and that’s the best way to do it.”
The idea for a new website arose when Yuill was trying to find a solution for an online version of the Courier.
There was no point in creating two separate websites, when one new site would be easier.
The inspiration for the new site came from the BBC news website, which allows the individual to customize their home page depending on their interests.
This idea will be incorporated into the second phase of the website which will be launched in a few weeks.
“I don’t generally believe that I should be telling you what’s important and as the person designing it, when I put stuff on the front page that’s exactly what I’m doing,” Yuill said.
Therefore, by being able to customize their own home page, students will be able to see posts in the sections they are most interested in. This may vary depending on whether they are looking for event postings or pictures from the previous night’s basketball game.
“I really wanted to put our website in your hands,” Yuill said.
Not only will students have the ability to interact with their own home page, but they will also be able to upload and tag their own posts for all students to see.
This will help bring the campuses together and will keep students informed on matters within and outside the CCSAI and the college.
