  Play it Smart

  A tutoring and mentorship program at Ashtonbee is a slam dunk with community kids.

  The Play it Smart program began last week at Ashtonbee and already has a waiting list for some groups, according to Vern Kennedy, a business teacher at Centennial College and the program’s creator.

  Play it Smart, which tipped off its pilot project on Sept. 21, offers children from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to learn and play basketball using Ashtonbee’s stellar facilities, while improving on their schoolwork. (More …)

  Ashtonbee’s VP loves a good challenge 

  

  Ashtonbee VP Melissa Miller

  Ashtonbee’s new vice-president is settling into her job and stepping up to the challenge of making the campus an even more fun, accessible and interactive environment.

  Melissa Miller, an energetic first-year student studying auto body repair techniques at Ashtonbee, said that she was looking for a position on campus that would allow her to become more involved on a daily basis. The VP position fit the bill perfectly. (More …)

  Hybrid course ‘a sure bet’ 

  

  Hybrid course

  It’s official; Centennial’s first hybrid course is a go.

  Despite some early doubt regarding the number of interested students, enrollment numbers increased. The first session for hybrid vehicle repair and service training went ahead as scheduled on Sept. 17.

  The course instructor, Al Playter, was confident that enrollment would reach the required level by the second scheduled session, even though initial numbers were low. (More …)
