Art series provides advice to students
Over the last three years, students have been invited to get creative.
This Friday, the last installment of Creative Fusion, a lecture series that discusses the life of an artist in the real world, will take place.
The series has featured industry veterans in graphic design, digital animation and the fine arts. During the one hour presentation, they discuss their career and accomplishments, followed by a Q & A with the audience.
Acting coordinator of fine arts David McClyment, thinks the presentations are critical to opening the eyes of students.
“The idea is to give a realistic appraisal of what students are setting out to do,” he said.
McClyment, the organizer for the event, believes the impact of the three-year old series is remarkable.
“A lot of people get a wake up call sitting in the audience,” he said.
Steven Lewis will make his third appearance at the series on Feb. 27. Lewis, an artist and senior partner at special effects company Spinpro, hopes his 20 years of experience will allow him to share some insight with students
“The expectations (for each project) are always very high ,and you have to figure out how to get the most out of the limitations that are presented to you,” he said.
Recently, Lewis completed work on Fashion Cares, an annual fashion show supporting Toronto’s AIDS committee. He advises students to challenge themselves.
“A person needs to be open and agreeable to any challenge that comes their way because you never know where it may lead, he said.”
McClyment hopes that students will walk away from the presentation with a better attitude about their career path.
The last installment of Creative Fusion takes place Feb. 27 in room 106 from 12 to 1 pm.
