Winter 2016 intramurals brought the Centennial College motto to the forefront as it gave students the opportunity to see where experience takes them, not only in the classroom but also on the courts.

The intramural competition, organized between the CCSAI and the Centennial College Athletics department, started off with a bang on Feb. 1. This season four games were on offer: indoor cricket, indoor soccer, volleyball, and floor hockey. The Athletics and Recreation Department provided tremendous support,  with the addition of two intramural coordinators, and a convener for each sport. Floor hockey registered five teams, indoor soccer had ten teams, volleyball seven teams and indoor cricket had eleven teams.

The season opened with a captains’ meeting that gave members of the respective teams the opportunity to meet and interact before meeting on the courts. Team members were made aware of rules and regulations governing each sport, which helped lead to a smooth start.

The introduction of the IMLeagues website and mobile app enabled students to keep abreast of the game schedules and scores. It made for easier communication, announced changes and congratulated teams on their spectacular performance.

Throughout the season each game saw a true reflection of sportsmanship, comradery and great school spirit. The league facilitated coed games to encourage both male and female students who wanted to play on the same team. Each game honored its MVP at the end of each match. This increased the effort and respect team players demonstrated on the court.

The leagues were brought to a close on April 6 which crowned SWTBAK as champions for Floor Hockey. Invincibles champions for Indoor Cricket, Unknowns champions for Indoor Soccer and Serves You Right champions for Volleyball.

One may ask what the grand prize was for league winners. Each team won bragging rights in addition to gift certificates, Centennial College Athletic Department Jerseys, water bottles and meal vouchers from the CCSAI. Certainly it was a fabulous season!

Students who still have a remaining semester left at the college are already gearing up for the next season’s league. Thursday April 14 will bring the curtains to a close for the Winter Semester 2016; Indoor Soccer Champions from Progress, Morningside and Ashtonbee will face off for the campus cup. This is sure to bring much excitement, entertainment and fun for all those in attendance.
