Centennial College, hosted the OCAA Badminton Championship this year, with five players competing at provincial level.

The Colts advanced to the Provincials in three categories at Cambrian College in Sudbury Feb. 1st and 2nd. Kevin Ronkiewicz and Kevin Guan together with Sarah Nualan and Jia Yi Feng came second in men’s and women’s doubles. Maria Shipulina ended up third in women’s singles play.

“I’m excited because it is my last year at Centennial,” silver winner Kevin Ronkiewicz said.
He hopes the Colts can improve, but it will take time, effort and dedication.

Women’s doubles provincial finalists Sarah Nualan and Jia Yi Feng are eager to train harder as a duo too.
“Our opponents are more experienced in doubles, but we can make it,” Feng said.

First year singles player Maria Shipulina went 5-1 and won the bronze. The whole team was overjoyed after her match.
“She had a tough semi-final match to go through, so we had to be there for her,” Nualan said.

Team spirit prevailed, with wonderful support, they hope to win and make Centennial proud at the Provincials.
“We are all family now,” Kevin Ronkiewicz assured the Courier.
